November 2012 Issue
What's New This Month
Mushrooms: At the request of many of Minnie’s Dried Fruits & Vegetables
customers, we have dried Egyptian white button mushrooms. They come in packages
of 50g. Rehydrate them if you like or just use them dry right out of the bag. Throw
them is soups, in meat dishes, in vegetable dishes and in sauces.
Guava leaves: we have
added them to our stock of sage, lemon grass,
rosemary, lavender, bay leaves, chives, hot chilies- green and red
for the courageous. They are all dried using solar energy, which keeps in the
flavors and oils.
Soup Mix: is back on the monthly list now that the weather is a little cooler,
especially at night. The mix is a blend of shredded zucchini, carrots, peas, onions,
and herbs cut in small pieces and solar dried. Throw half a bag in your
favorite broth, add a handful of vermicelli or small pasta and you have a meal
ready in under 30 minutes!! You can also add this mix to any tomato sauce for a
vegetable rich pasta sauce.
Did You Know That:
Guava Leaves: have many
health benefits? Preliminary studies on
guava leaves tea indicate that
this tea may help inhibit a variety of
diarrhea-causing bacteria, may cause
beneficial changes in cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and may help with
the prevention and treatment of diabetes? It can also help treat mouth ulcers,
sore throats and laryngitis.
White Button Mushrooms: enhance the immune system? That they contain a surprising amount of
vitamins and mineral and are a great source for potassium, even better than
bananas?
