April 2016

First things first!

April 1= April's fool day. Lots of pranks and fun and not so fun things happen.

Yes, but it is also the day Slow Food Egypt and Eish & Malh restaurant on Adly Street downtown Cairo get together and cook up a storm using the products of Slow Food members and share in an event called "from farm to fork'.

It is a day when you find out from where the food you eat comes from, a day where you taste food that has been prepared just for the event using products grown and raised by farmers, a day where you can buy healthy produce, healthy pasta, healthy bread, healthy eggs, a day  where you meet people who like you want to eat healthy and to enjoy healthy eating.

Minnies Dried Fruits &Vegetables will be at the farmers market that will take place at Eish & Malh on April 1, no April fools!!

Also in April you will be able to watch Minnies team at work, preparing the only dried fruits & vegetables in Egypt that are dried using solar energy and where NO sugar, No preservatives and No color or taste enhancers are used. Why? Because we are in the news again. On March 24, CBC Sofra's Magy Habib and Heba Battisha and their team came to Dahshour to film us at work and then Magy will show you how to cook a few dishes using our dried products. We will let you know when the episode will be aired on CBC Sofra. So stay tuned for more.

And we have some new products that we are happy to share with you: dried kale to use in your smoothies or salads or soups. And dry pumpkin to make a delicious rice with pumpkin. You can find how to make it  under the tab 'Recipes'. I am also working on developing a recipe to make the Egyptian dessert called  ar3 3asaly using sliced dried pumpkin.

We are busy and we are having fun! Come join us. We will be attending several markets this month. Some new and always our old familiar markets. So read our posts to find out where we are.

Happy April!!
March 2016

And here we are beginning the third month of the new year. Winter is over. Amsheer, the month of gusty winds and temperamental weather is upon us.
Spring is arriving. Birds are building new nests, new leaves and new flowers are peeking timidly from the branches and raising their heads to the warm sun.

Zenab has come and gone. She is a wonderful partner and support, providing me with positive ideas to make our work smoother and more effective. Fun to be with and to work with. Dont stay away too long cousin!

And we are continuing to dry more and more strawberries, harankash and tomatoes. Our tomatoes which have become known as 'jewels' are a great success with O's pasta in Zamalek and with Store of Home Made.  Our oranges are in great demand at the Lemon Tree in Zamalek. Our dried pink grapefruit is finding a home on O's pasta's salad menu.  And all our dried fruits dipped in Ganache's chocolates are becoming a very popular and unusual gift.

March is a very busy month for us as we will be attending a number of special events. Two major ones are the Slow Downtown event at Eish & Malh, a restaurant on Adly street, downtown Cairo on Friday the 4th.  And the second on March 19th at the Zamalek Fish Garden just in time for Mother's Day.
We are also going to try a new market and will join the Nun Farmers Market at 6th of October City at the Guezira Plaza 2 Sundays a month. We will be at our regular bi-monthly Nun Farmers Market in Zamalek too.  So follow us for detailed information on where and when you can find us.  And remember that you can always find us of facebook or on our blog: cut-an-dried.blogspot.com
